Nigerian Visa for US Citizens

US citizens require a visa to enter Nigeria. There are various visa options available depending on the purpose of your visit, e.g. visiting, tourism, business, etc. Here are the requirements and how to get a Nigerian visa for US citizens.

Nigerian Visa Requirements for US Citizens

To start your application, you must first understand the Nigerian visa requirements for US citizens:

• Passport: You must have a valid passport (i.e. passport must not expire within six months from date of entry to Nigeria).
• Recent Passport Photos: You must have two recently taken passport-sized photos (on white background and not older than three months).
• Evidence of Sufficient Funds: To get Nigerian visa for US citizens, you will need to show proof that you have enough funds to cover your trip to Nigeria. This can be one of the following:
  • Bank account statement – that shows you have enough money in your account for the trip. This is usually a 3-months bank statement.
  • Sponsorship Letter – by another person that confirms they will be financially supporting your trip to Nigeria. In order for this letter to be valid, it must be accompanied by a bank statement of the sponsor, not older than three months.
• Evidence of accommodation (hotel reservation) in Nigeria: A document that shows where you will be staying throughout your visit to Nigeria. This can be a hotel reservation confirmation.
• Round Trip Flight Itinerary Reservation: It must include name of traveler (as on passport), travel dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Nigeria.
• Letter of Invitation to Nigeria: A document from a host inviting you to Nigeria and accepting all immigration responsibilities for the period of your stay. The letter of invitation must include a valid Nigerian passport copy or CAC certificate of the host.
• Evidence of Visa Application and Online Payment: A printout of the completed online visa application and payment receipt are required by the Consulate/Embassy before your visa can be approved.

Nigerian Visa for US Citizens: How to Apply

Before you start your application, you need to gather the required documents and make sure everything is intact:

• First, check your passport to make sure it does not expire in six months’ time. If your passport doesn’t have up to six months validity, you need to get a new one first.
• Take new passport photos (against a white background). If you already have passport photos, be sure they weren’t taken more than 3 months ago.
• Get a bank statement that shows that there are sufficient funds in your account to cover for the trip.
• Get the remaining documents here.
