What Documents are Required when Applying for a Nigerian Visa?
The following list of documents are required for any short-term Nigerian visa application:
- A Valid Passport: You must have an international passport with at least 6 months validity (i.e. passport must not expire within six months from date of entry to Nigeria).
- Recent Passport Photos: You must have two recently taken passport-sized photos (not older than three months). Passport should be on white background and 2 inches by 2 inches in size.
- Proof of Funds: You need to show evidence that you have enough money to support yourself financially throughout your stay in Nigeria. This can be one of the following:
- Bank account statement – that shows you have enough money in your account for the trip. This is usually a 3-months bank statement.
- Sponsorship Letter – by another person that confirms they will be financially supporting your trip to Nigeria. In order for this letter to be valid, it must be accompanied by a bank statement of the sponsor, no older than three months.
- A combination of your bank account statement and a letter of sponsorship.
- Evidence of accommodation: A document that shows where you will be accommodated throughout your stay in Nigeria. This can be one of the following:
- A hotel reservation confirmation
- A rental agreement
- A letter of invitation from a host in Nigeria clearly stating that you will be staying in their residence, and it must have a verifiable address
- Round Trip Flight Itinerary Reservation: It must include dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from Nigeria.
- Letter of Invitation to Nigeria: A document from a host inviting you to Nigeria and accepting all immigration responsibilities for the period of your stay. The letter of invitation must include a valid Nigerian passport, or an incorporation certificate if it’s accompany inviting you to Nigeria (CAC certificate of host company)
- Proof of Visa Application and Online Payment: You must fill the online visa application on the immigration portal and pay the visa fee online. A printout of the completed online application and payment receipt are required by the Consulate/Embassy before your visa can be approved.
Do Embassies Require Additional Documents for Nigeria Visa Application?

Nigeria Visa Requirements: What You Must Know
1. Passport: You must provide your actual signed passport, including one copy of the personal information page of your passport. Your passport must:
- Be valid for the next six months.
- Have at least two blank facing visa pages, excluding endorsements and amendments pages.
- Not be frayed, torn, separating, or altered in any other way.
2. Photographs: You must provide two color, passport-sized photographs that meet the following criteria:
- Be taken within the last three months
- Be taken against an all white background
- Be two inches by two inches
- Provide the full frontal view of your head with your face centered in the middle and displaying a neutral (non-smiling) expression
- You may wear neither eyeglasses nor headwear except for religious purposes
- Your photos should not be affixed to your application, and it may not display evidence of adhesive tape or staples
3. Proof of Sufficient Funds: You must provide proof that you possess sufficient funds. Your financial details must:
- Include a copy of your most recent bank statement
- Display your full name
