Your Google Maps rank changes
street by street.
Standard rank tracking gives you one number. Grid Scan checks your Google Maps position from up to 49 locations across your city and maps the result as a colour-coded heatmap — so you see exactly where customers can find you and where you are invisible.
Your ranking is not a single number. It is a map.
When someone searches "accountant in Chicago", Google uses their precise location to decide which businesses to show them — and in what order. A business that ranks #1 for a customer in River North might be #8 for a customer two kilometres away in Wicker Park, and completely absent for someone in Lincoln Park.
Standard rank tracking picks a single central coordinate and gives you one number. That hides the geographic variation that actually determines how many customers find you.
Local Grid Scan fires the same search from a grid of up to 49 coordinates, records your position at every point, and renders the result as a heatmap — so you see the full picture, not just the average.
Most of your lost customers are invisible in a standard rank report
If your service area spans several neighbourhoods, a single rank number averaged from the city centre tells you almost nothing about what happens at the edges — which is exactly where you are losing customers to competitors who rank higher in their local quadrant.
Grid Scan gives you the map your local SEO strategy has been missing. You see not just where you rank, but where you are absent and — via Competitor Frequency analysis — exactly which businesses are filling those gaps.
From keyword to heatmap in four steps
Add a keyword to track
Enter a search term your customers use — for example 'dentist Austin' or 'accountant Sandton'. This becomes the query simulated at every point on the grid.
Choose your grid size and spacing
Select a 3×3, 5×5, or 7×7 grid and a point spacing of 0.5 km, 1 km, or 2 km. The combination determines how many scan points are used and how large an area is covered.
The scan runs in parallel
Destinali fires simultaneous Google Maps searches from each coordinate, records your rank at every point, and identifies the top competitors at locations where you are not in the Local Pack.
Read your heatmap and act
A colour-coded grid shows your rank at every point. Green clusters tell you where you dominate. Red and grey tell you where to focus your reviews, citations, and content. Export as PDF, PNG, or CSV for your records or team.
Choose the resolution that fits your service area
Larger grids cost more credits but show a more detailed picture. Tighter spacing is ideal for dense urban areas; wider spacing suits businesses with a larger geographic catchment.
Find out who is winning the areas you are losing
At every grid point where you are not in the top 3, Destinali records which businesses are. After the scan, Competitor Frequency analysis ranks those businesses by how often they appear in the Local Pack across your grid — giving you a shortlist of the competitors who are eating your local search share.
Local Pack Frequency tells you who dominates. Coverage shows who appears broadly even if not always in the top 3. Together they reveal the competitive landscape you are operating in.
- ✓Ranked by Local Pack Frequency — the positions that get the clicks
- ✓Coverage score — how often they appear in the top 10 across the grid
- ✓Per-cell hover — see the top 5 competitors at any single coordinate
- ✓Included in CSV and PDF exports for every scan
Pay as you scan. No wasted credits.
Grid scan credits are purchased on top of the Growth subscription. One credit equals one scan point — a 5×5 scan costs exactly 25 credits. Credits never expire.
Every scan ships with three export formats
Visual heatmap
A high-resolution screenshot of the colour-coded grid. Share it in a client report, a team Slack, or a deck without any extra formatting.
Raw data
Every grid point with its coordinates, rank position, and top competitors. Competitor Frequency table appended per keyword. Import into a spreadsheet or your own reporting stack.
Formatted report
A clean report combining the heatmap, rank breakdown by position band, and the Competitor Frequency table — ready to send to a client or file for a quarterly review.
Grid Scan and Rank Tracking work best together
Rank Tracking checks your position daily from a standard coordinate and builds a trend line over time. Grid Scan gives you a snapshot of your geographic spread — useful when you need to understand a ranking drop, evaluate a new service area, or benchmark against a specific competitor.
Use Grid Scan to diagnose. Use Rank Tracking to monitor. Both are included in the Growth plan — Grid Scan credits are the only pay-as-you-go element.
