Specialties
Polmed offers a range of medical scheme plans structured to meet different healthcare needs and budgets. Members can choose from an overview of plans that cover essential day to day medical expenses, as well as comprehensive benefits that include hospitalisation, specialist consultations, and chronic medication. Each option is guided by formal scheme rules, ensuring clarity on what is covered and how benefits are accessed within the South African regulatory framework for medical schemes. A key aspect of Polmed’s offering is its focus on specialised healthcare processes, such as Injury on Duty (IOD) claims and Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) claims. For a membership base that faces occupational risks, these dedicated processes help manage claims related to work incidents and accidents, supported by structured protocols and guidance. In addition, Polmed promotes preventative benefits, encouraging members to use screenings, vaccinations, and early detection services to manage their long term health. The scheme also offers tools such as GP nomination and access to Designated Service Providers (DSPs), helping members find appropriate healthcare professionals and make informed provider choices. Polmed’s affiliation with administrative structures such as provider networks, DSPs, and managed care support services allows it to offer members coordinated healthcare. Through its Maternity Programme and other focused health initiatives, the scheme supports families during critical life events, enabling expectant parents and dependants to access structured guidance and care within their medical scheme benefits. This combination of specialised claims support, preventive care, and focused health programmes sets Polmed apart as a targeted health insurance solution in Arcadia and greater Pretoria.

Think twice about polmed if you have medical problems. They pay for any medication but when it comes to hospital expenses they will rather let you die than approve emergency medical treatment!!
The service from consultants was the worst. I regret moving my salary to this bank.Nedbank Arcadia branch consultants have no customer service at all.
Absolutely devestatingly bad service!!! Trying to get my 67 year old mother's membership certificate to get her on a different medical aid. I even had my mom on conference, Ashanra the call centre supervisor puts me on hold for 15 minutes and the call cuts out and she goes on lunch. This after numerous phonecalls to the call centre and extremely rude call centre staff. Its a shame, this use to be the best medical aid ever. Oh please don't throw up the POPI act, under POPI members can request their own information. Its not my problem if Polmeds systems can't do this.
The options on the customer care line are hopelessly insufficient. How can it be so difficult to get a authorization code for a consultation at a specialist? I get throught to a consultant I am being tranferred from one peraon to another and nobody is helping me!
Medscheme for public servants and Polmed is housed within Plaza in offering its services medical aids related to police members and their dependents. Customer Service Centre staff members executing their duties with dedication and commitment. They're professional in their approach, accessible and respectful to clients. The CSC is managed by highly experienced staff welcoming and knowledgeable in assisting clients with their medical related queries.
I Get such a great service from Mpho of Maternity program. Ubuntu, may you keep on doing the great job. You make things easier for us . ❤❤❤
Polmed is the worst service provider in Cosmos. Its very unfortunate that they provide health services to people that are getting fatal injuries on daily basis. I pray that one day someone will wake up and move this service to a more professional service provider for the sake of the entire POLICE FORCE that is currently dying under POLMED.
I am feeling suicidal with the horrible way I am being treated by people at medscheme who are abusing the power they have over my health and my life. Who is overseeing what these consultants are doing? They are playing with my life. I even get family members to call in my behalf. I cannot afford to call, each call costs over R100 as I start afresh with each consultant, getting help is a gamble 😠
This is the 2nd time this year I had to get Hospital Authority. The 1st was in March 2019. It took me a week to get an Authority Number and that was on number 99. Now on the 18th day of June 2019 I requested Authority. My knees are damaged and I can barely walk. I can't do my work as investigator. The hospital needs booking 3 days in advance. The operation was scheduled for 21st day of June 2019 and I needed to be at hospital at 06:00. It is now 07:28 and still no Authority Number. I phoned the whole day yesterday to obtain the number. All I got is we don't know and we can't assist you it is out of our hands! Bad!!! The worst ever!!!!!!!! It does not even deserve a star!!!
Polmed is administered by Medscheme. The worst service provider ever! The call center in incompetent. Nobody ever gets back with solutions. You are not seen as and individual. NO one takes your case/issue and work on it. Ever time you call the call center, you speak to some new person and you have to repeat every thing from the start. They don't even reply on my complaints made directly on their website! Seriously poor server! Never ever in my life I've been so frustrated with a service provider! NO STARS TO THEM!
