Crompton should no longer be allowed to call themselves a private hospital. I was recently there with my 2 month old baby who had been admitted. There were rats in the roof in the room we were staying in. We could hear them all day and night. Not only that the floors were dirty and cleaning staff would come in at 10pm to clean when you trying to sleep and wake your baby up. On the second day no one came to change the sheets until 8pm at night, my baby was sleeping so I sent them away because I’m not going to wake my sick baby and they gave me attitude.

Went there with my wife and 2 month old baby since he was crying non stop and I was told to wait outside @ the ER, this was around 1,2pm I told them I can’t wait outside since it doesn’t make sense as the baby is cranky, he needs both parents. The staff didn’t take me seriously as they stuck to “its not allowed” so I left and went to another hospital and there I was treated very well, I was able to be right there next to them until he was admitted.

Why are the elderly treated like corpse. Why is the aircon at 16° the lowest cool and grannies are given the bed underneath the aircon. I know adults like me will opt for a different bed because we can complain. Grannies don't complain because they don't want to be a nuisance in a place that could be their last resting place, they need the nurse to care for them in whatever they go through so they accept all these inconsiderate behaviours. There is a Gogo asleep in foetal position under a 16° Aircon and just because she said it's fine, doesn't mean it is. Icy air has never been fine for a senior citizen, never! You can treat me an adult anyhow I will write to everyone I need to write but not with our Gogos and Mkhulus please!!!

I have so much to share about the poor service of staff here, day shift nurses were absolutely lovely and kind, the night shift nurses in maternity were appalling, it's actually disgusting, terrible attitudes and even worse when they have to do anything slightly more than they FEEL like they should for you and your baby, maybe it's changed but I highly doubt it, after complaining all I got was an apology for serious neglect and poor performance? They left my catheter bag get so full I thought it was going to pop and they still had an attitude when I asked for it to be emptied, let alone changing me, they left this to day shift staff who were horrified how I was left - this is just one of the MANY issues I experienced - An apology doesn't fix that after we've spent close to 100k in total here - as you will see from the hospital replies below, all a generic, all a joke honestly. Anaesthetist I had also couldn't be bothered to talk to me about what was going on, I had 11 insertion sites in my back that we could count when I got home, I ended up being put under and they forgot to call my partner in as well so he missed the whole birth of our son. Severely traumatized after this to say the least but an apology is what they thought was sufficient, what a joke🫠

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the level of service and nursing care received by my relative who is currently admitted at your hospital in D Ward. While we acknowledge the pressures faced by healthcare professionals, the treatment experienced by my relative from certain nursing staff has been deeply disappointing and distressing. The nurses’ attitude was perceived as uncaring, unsympathetic, and lacking compassion, which made an already difficult hospital stay emotionally challenging. Patients and their families expect not only clinical care, but also basic human dignity, empathy, and professionalism. Unfortunately, the conduct displayed did not meet these expectations and fell short of the standards associated with Life Healthcare. This experience has raised serious concerns about service quality and patient care at your facility. As a result, I have advised my relative that, should the need arise in future, she may consider seeking care at an alternative private healthcare facility where patient-centred service and compassion are consistently demonstrated. I trust that this complaint will be taken seriously and investigated accordingly. I would appreciate feedback on the steps that will be taken to address these concerns and to ensure that patients in D Ward are treated with respect, care, and empathy at all times. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The Lake, Smith Xray section staff get 1% for people skill-set. A blood coughing patient persistently coughed in a tiny reception area. NoMy request that the patient be given a mask, was dismissed. The coughing and sweating patient persisted.

Hi My name is Pretty Khumalo I am currently admitted into this hospital in Surgical A ward Room 8. My reason for admission is sensitive and private I came in the Saturday around 21h00 in casualty, despite the late attendance due to insufficient staff, i would like to thank and recommend the staff who was working that night of the 20th, they treated me with so much kindness and utmost love. Ladies thank you so much , may u will be well rewarded for your dedication and humbleness to patients and mostly to me. Then I was moved to A ward Surgical, from stepping in from such a long wait in casualty, I was received to my room and made comfortable, offered pain relief and warmer blankets , with all the pain and tears ... they comforted me and gave me hope and it was time for the staff to exchange shift but they didn't show no urgency they left me comfortable and pain free and gave me hospital gown and towels and made sure I had all I needed, im really greatful. Now my stay so far I thought it was gonna change, guess what senior staff members are so humble and loving, constantly checking up on me, on my drip, professionalism on another level, I have been scared to press the bell cause the nurses turn to hate that... but these nurses they come more than I would have pressed the bell, they cover my needs before I even requested. All nurses from the 20th till 23rd have been more than amazing, they have emotionally healed me before they even touched me. Their ethics and professionalism have me on awe ... I wish I knew them namely from ENAs , EN and RNs cause im very thankful of their effort towards my care. Not forgetting the Doctors, they were both males and my issue was sensitive i had wished to have a female Doctor but to my Suprise Dr Xulu and his Partnering doctor handled my matter with so much dignity and respect. Im really greatful.

Good day, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the unacceptable level of care my baby and I received during our recent admission to the Paediatric Ward at Crompton Hospital. We arrived at the hospital in the early hours of the morning, around 01:30–02:00 am on 17 June 2025 as my baby was presenting with flu symptoms including a high fever, dry cough, vomiting, and constipation. Upon arrival at the A&E department, I asked the attending trauma doctor if it would be possible to manage the symptoms at home with medication. I was informed that my baby required close clinical monitoring, and we were admitted accordingly. As I did not have a designated paediatrician, Dr. Soni was assigned. From the moment we arrived in the Paediatric Unit, the experience was disappointing and distressing. There was no communication or courtesy from the nursing staff, no greetings, no introductions and no explanation of roles. Furthermore, none of the staff were wearing name badges or epaulettes, making it impossible to distinguish whether they were RNs, ENs, or ENAs, which is a clear violation of both internal hospital policy and the South African Nursing Council (SANC) regulations. Most concerning was the lack of medical attention provided throughout the day. After receiving medication from the night staff at 06:00, my baby did not receive any further medication until after I inquired around 13:00pm. Even then, I had to prompt a staff member who responded vaguely with, “Oh eish, let me check what’s written on the file.” This is not the standard of proactive or compassionate care one expects from a facility of Crompton’s reputation. Additionally, despite repeated concerns raised throughout the day, my baby was not seen by a paediatrician until approximately 19:15 in the evening nearly 18 hours after admission. This delay in medical review is completely unacceptable especially for a child presenting with high fever and other distressing symptoms. I also raised a request to change doctors due to the lack of response and follow-up, but I was told that it was against “policy and ethics” by the Unit’s manager of paeds who also did not show any remorse and respect to our concerns as parents. This left me with the impression that hospital policy was prioritised over the health and wellbeing of my child. Another serious concern was the manner in which medication was administered. At no point did any nurse explain what the medication was for or how it would help. As a mother, I found myself having to ask basic questions that should have been proactively addressed. In return, I was met with dismissive attitudes and visible irritation from staff when I asked for clarification. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I’ve had a poor experience at Crompton Hospital. In December 2023, I had a similar experience in the Women’s Health Unit, again marked by lack of identification, absence of communication, and no basic courtesy or professionalism from staff. The lack of compassionate care, clinical excellence, and genuine concern for patient’s wellbeing has been a consistent issue and it is clear that there are systemic problems that require urgent attention. And the extreme nose levels by the duty station, it’s like a party or a tavern where as it is a workplace with kids who are under distress. I am extremely disappointed by the level of care we received and no longer feel confident recommending Crompton Hospital to other families. I respectfully request that this complaint be investigated thoroughly and that I be provided with a formal response addressing: Why there was such a significant delay in the paediatrician attending to my baby? Why staff were not identifiable by name badge or epaulette, in line with SANC and hospital policies? Why communication and explanation around medication was neglected? What actions will be taken to address these ongoing service failures in the Paediatric unit? I look forward to your prompt response. Yours sincerely,

Deeply Disappointed and Heartbroken – A Mother’s Experience at Crompton Hospital I am writing this review as a heartbroken and extremely unhappy mother. I brought my son to Crompton Hospital after noticing worrying changes in his penis just one day after his circumcision. To my shock, Dr. Gounder told me he had forgotten that my son was a patient and needed to be checked. This level of neglect is completely unacceptable. We have been at the hospital since Saturday, and to this day, I have not received clear or consistent updates about what went wrong during the procedure. My son is in pain, his penis is swollen, and pus is coming out of the wound. As a mother, I am devastated — not only by my son’s suffering but by how little urgency or empathy has been shown by the medical staff. On Monday, I was told they would clean the wound on Wednesday, and if there was no improvement, then he would be taken to theatre on Thursday. I do not understand the delay in treatment. Why are they not treating this as a medical emergency? Why is there no clear communication? What makes this experience even worse is the attitude of some of the nurses, who have been rude and dismissive. When I express my concerns, I am met with comments like, “What do you expect the doctor to say?” — but isn’t it exactly the doctor’s job to tell me what’s going on and help my son? As a parent, I deserve to be informed. I shouldn’t be left guessing what’s wrong with my child or what’s going to happen next. The lack of compassion, urgency, and communication has been heartbreaking. I hope no other parent has to go through what I’ve been through here.
