Felidae Centre: A Safe Place For Cats

Felidae Centre is one of the most special places i have been in. A true safe place for animal in need, and an amazing experience for anyone who comes there (volunteers and visitors as one) I already been there twice and know that i will return some day. You will meet the amazing Burger family who truly cares about the animals and gave me the feeling of home away from .home You will come across so many animals, you will take care of them, feed them, build their enclosure, and sometimes will sit next to them for hours just for there company. I have volunteered at Felidae Centre for the past 2 weeks and I can truly say it’s been one of the most beautiful experience of my life. Thank you Felidae Centre, my heart is full!

I had the pleasure of volunteering at Felidae for 3 weeks and it truly exceeded all my expectations. Being surrounded by so many magical animals and contributing to their well-being was an incredible experience. The variety of animals is amazing: lions, cheetahs, leopards, bat-eared foxes, monkeys, goats, sheeps, and many more, each one unique and special in their own way. 🦁🐆 The Burger family who runs the sanctuary is wonderful: kind, welcoming, and always making sure volunteers enjoy their time, both inside the sanctuary and during outside activities. You can also tell how deeply they care about the animals at the sanctuary and that everything they do is for the animals to be well, loved and happy. The volunteer accommodation was very clean and comfortable, and the meals provided were complete and delicious. I would 100% recommend volunteering at Felidae and I can’t wait to return! 💕

Wow, wow, wow.... what an amazing place... the passion that runs throughout this place is just exceptional. My husband and I stayed in the Lions Den for 1 night and what an experience that was with our furry friends visiting us occasionally. The tour was extremely educational but if you want to do yourself a bigger favour, do the adventure tour to see these majestic animals up close!

There aren’t enough words to describe the impact Felidae Centre has had on me. I had the pleasure of volunteering with them for a week this past August. From the moment they picked me up from the local bus station I knew I would be in good hands. As a solo traveler in a foreign country, I instantly felt safe with them. It takes much dedication and hard work to run a sanctuary of this scale, housing many volunteers, and 60+ animals, but the Burger family shows up every day ready to tackle whatever challenges may come with a smile on their face. You can see the passion and love they pour into this project and the community that they’ve built. My only regret is that I didn’t book a longer stay!! Don’t make the same mistake as me. It was the hardest goodbye, but you will leave with the fullest heart. Looking forward to the day I get to come back!

There are not many things comparable to the experience that I had at Felidae Center. But first of all and the reason I have been there twice, the owners. The Owners of Felidae are some of the kindest and inspirational people that I have ever met in my life, and you can tell that they are passionate about what they do. Furthermore I have met some incredible people and made forever lasting memories here. Volunteering here made me discover a passion that I didn’t know I had before this, and I learned a lot about myself by being here. I am excited to come back for a third time. If you love animals and looking for a place to volunteer LOOK NO FURTHER ! Definetly one of the best experiences of my life!

Hands down 5 stars!!!! My two weeks as a volunteer at Felidae Center were hands down the best vacation I’ve ever had. Felidae and the family—thank you, Chriszanne, Tercia, and Nicol—really made me fall in love with Africa, not just the nature, but the whole way of life I had never experienced before. At Felidae, I was able to help the family build something truly special. They give absolutely everything for the animals, which is really tough in an area where money is often prioritized over animal welfare. It’s inspiring to see how much they care, and it made me appreciate their work even more. The way the volunteers are looked after is also incredible. You can really feel how much the family cares about us, and they make sure we have everything we need to have a great time. It’s clear they value their volunteers just as much as they value the animals. Getting to work with the animals, feeding them, preparing their meals, and observing them up close was an experience I will never forget. There’s no place where you could do this in the same way—it’s truly something special. I completely understand why the family does this, and I’m happy to be a part of it. Felidae Center has definitely left a lasting mark on me, and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone who loves wildlife and wants to experience something unique and meaningful. Thank you to the Felidae family for making these two weeks the best I’ve ever had!

We had an unforgettable two-week experience at Felidae, a sanctuary for animal refugees, especially felines. The environment is incredibly warm and welcoming, with a perfect balance of hard work, laughter, and dedication to the animals, including endangered species. A typical day starts at 08:00 with food prep and feeding, followed by various tasks like building enclosures, cleaning, and organizing the farm. The afternoons are calmer, with the workday ending around 17:00, followed by dinner and games with volunteers. Every day is an adventure, as no two days are alike. Felidae is not just a refuge for animals but also a haven for those who visit. We hope they succeed in securing the budget for solar panels, which would greatly enhance the farm’s sustainability and independence, especially given the challenges with some compromised South African electricity providers. PS: If you visit in winter, be prepared for some rough temperatures and frozen fingers! Can't wait to go back!!

Our stay at Felidae Centre was an unforgettable experience! We spent two nights in the Lion's Den, and it was thrilling to be so close to the majestic lions. Watching them drink water from the bathroom window was a unique and exhilarating sight. The love and dedication the owners and volunteers have for the centre and all its animals is truly amazing. We highly recommend the Feeding/ Educational Tour, as it allows you to interact with the animals and learn more about their unique personalities. The photographic tour with the lions at sunset was nothing short of remarkable. Thank you so much for allowing us to experience this wonderful little gem outside of Kimberley. We can't wait to visit again!

Amazing place! I voluntered first time a little more than a year ago and loved it so much that I returned and definitely will again! You can truly feel how much they love the animals and are passionate about giving them the best life possible. Voluntering there gives a feeling of helping and a connection with the animals, the family and the other volunteers. My first time we made enrichments for the servals and my second time we worked on enclosures for three new animals. The rewards are all the hard work worth and it is not an organisation, it is one big home. So whether you are considering a tour or volunteering there, I can only highly recommend it! Chriszanne, Tercia, Papa Nicol, Marnix and all the other volunteers, thanks for some amazing memories, lots of laughs and I can't wait to see you again!
